Privacy policy

The short version is simple. CalcGoose has no accounts to sign into, carries no advertising, and never sees what you type into a calculator. It does count visits, and it collects nothing else about you unless you choose to write to us.

What you type into a calculator

Nothing. Every calculator on this site runs as JavaScript inside your own browser. Your appliance list, your battery specs, your electricity rate, none of it is sent to a server, stored, or logged, because there is no server to send it to. This site is a set of static files.

Getting in touch

The one place this site does collect anything. If you fill in the form at /contact/, your name, email address and message are sent to an inbox we read, so that we can answer you, and for nothing else. They are not added to a mailing list, not used for marketing, and not shared with anyone.

Delivery is handled by Resend, an email service acting as our processor. The message is not stored in a database on this site, because there is no database. It is passed straight through to email. Ask us and we will delete the thread.

Analytics and cookies

CalcGoose sets no cookies of its own. Visit statistics are collected by Clicky, which records the pages requested, the referring site, and coarse details such as country, browser and screen size. It is used to see which calculators people find useful, nothing more.

Depending on how the account is configured, Clicky may set a first-party cookie so that a returning visitor is not counted twice. It is not an advertising cookie. It is not read by anyone else, it does not follow you to other sites, and no data is sold or shared. There is no advertising network on this site and no remarketing of any kind.

Server logs

CalcGoose runs on a virtual server rented from Hetzner Online GmbH, in Falkenstein, Germany. Hetzner provides the machine and the network. It does not process the site's content or its visitors on our behalf beyond that.

The web server on that machine writes an access log, the same one almost every web server writes. Each line records the time of the request, the IP address it came from, the page requested, the response code, and the browser's user agent string. Nothing you type into a calculator appears in it, because none of it is ever sent to the server.

We can read that log, and we do use it, for finding broken pages and for dealing with abusive traffic. It is not used to build a profile of you, it is not combined with the analytics described above, and it is not shared or sold. The file rotates once it reaches 20 MB and only the five most recent files are kept, so old entries are overwritten in the ordinary course of things rather than archived.

Advertising and affiliate links

There are none. CalcGoose carries no advertising, no affiliate links and no sponsored content, so nothing on this site is tracking you towards a purchase. If that ever changes, this page and the terms page will be updated before the links appear.

Children

This site is intended for a general adult audience and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

Your rights

Apart from the server log described above, which is short-lived and not tied to any identity we hold, we have nothing about you unless you have written to us. If you have, you can ask for that correspondence to be deleted and we will do it. You can also ask what a given IP address appears as in the log while it is still there. The contact page is the way to reach us.

Changes

If this policy changes, most likely because analytics were added, the change will appear here. Material changes will be noted on the page.
